Musing Mondays is a weekly meme that asks you to choose one of the following prompts to answer:

  • I’m currently reading…
  • Up next I think I’ll read…
  • I bought the following book(s) in the past week…
  • I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)…
  • I can’t wait to get a copy of…
  • I wish I could read ___, but…
  • I blogged about ____ this past week…

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: If you could have dinner with one author alive or dead who would it be?

Up next I think I’ll read…SOMETHING DIFFERENT! Okay, I wouldn’t say I’ve been in a reading slump, but I have definitely just been kind of blah about reading. And I finally figured out why. I always automatically gravitate toward romance books or books that have some type of romance in them. And at the moment, I want to give a big middle finger to romance, so why am I still reading these books?! I think I need to read something action-packed or sci-fi or dystopian. I just need something different!

My answer to this week’s random question: Despite what I just said (lol), I think I would like to meet Sophie Kinsella, the queen of chick lit. I love her books so much, and she always has me cracking up. I think she would be such a cool and down-to-earth person to meet.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: When someone in your life passes do you pick up a book they liked or one that reminds you of them to read?

I’m really upset by (book/author/bookish-news)… I’m so upset that my personal life is interfering with my reading and blogging life. I’ve been working so much. And when I’m not working, I’m spending time with my daughter, who is obviously my number one priority. BUT I do miss my blog, and I miss reading as much as I used to. Before, I would read for hours when my daughter was sleeping. Nowadays, I’m working online or just sleeping because I’m so tired from working. I guess that’s life. But I am going to try my hardest to set aside some time for my books and my blog. I MISS IT ALL SO MUCH!

My answer to this week’s random question: Fortunately, no one close to me has died in quite awhile. My pets have, if that counts. But, if someone does pass away, I think I would try to avoid anything that reminded me of them because I would get way too emotional. And the reason I think I would do that is because after Paul Walker died, I still can’t watch any of his movies. It’s so hard. And that was someone I didn’t even know personally. I’m a very emotional person. When I get sad, it takes over my whole entire life, and I am useless to the world. So, to answer the question, I probably would not pick up their favorite book or one that reminded me of them.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: How do you make time for reading when you are very busy? Or how do you find a better balance between wanting to spend time reading and other commitments?

I blogged about ____ this past week… After 10 months away, I’m finally back. So, this past week, I did a little update post on my very long hiatus. You can read all about my drama-filled life here:

Why I’ve Been MIA

I also blogged about my reading challenges. I’m starting fresh this year, in life and in my blog. I have missed reading and blogging SO MUCH, so I’m excited to get back to everything, including reading challenges, which I LOVE. So, here are the challenges I will be participating in:

2017 Reading Challenge Sign-Ups

My answer to this week’s random question: How do I make time for reading when I’m very busy? I am probably the wrong person to ask this question to since I literally just took a 10-month break, BUT I have learned something in the process.

A LOT was going on in my personal life. A lot is STILL going on. I haven’t read a book since last March. And I felt depressed for the longest time. Then I realized that reading has always comforted me and was my escape from a sometimes drama-filled life. I need it. I HAVE to make time for it. So, with everything going on (my marriage ending, suddenly being a single mom, working three part-time jobs, applying for teaching jobs, and trying to get a place for me and my daughter), I make sure to set aside time every day to read. When my crazy day is over and my daughter is sleeping, I curl up on my couch or my bed under a warm blanket…and just read. And it is such a nice, relaxing, peaceful way to end my day.

No matter what, I make it a priority to end my day with a book. It keeps me sane. Everyone has their ways of coping and dealing with the stress of life. Mine is reading. It took me awhile to realize this, but I’m glad I finally did. No more breaks from books 🙂

How do you make time to read in your busy life?

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What was the last book you didn’t finish? Why?

I bought the following book(s) in the past week…Well, I didn’t actually buy it. I won it in a giveaway from Book Crushin. Thankfully, I got my first choice, which I was BEYOND excited about. And here it is:

(Sorry about the poor picture quality!)

Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker! This book sounds amazing. And I can’t wait to read it.

My answer to this week’s random question: The last book I didn’t finish was The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.

Technically, I’m still reading it because I have a rule not to give up on books, but honestly, I haven’t picked it up in months. It is just really slow, and I am not all that interested in it. I’ll finish it one day though…

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: How do you choose which books you read?

I’m super excited to tell you about (book/author/bookish-news)…So when we moved awhile back, my bookcase completely broke, which was pretty devastating for me. Then, I never got around to buying a new one. My books have just been sitting in boxes. BUT, my husband surprised me a few days ago and bought me two new bookcases!!! I immediately got all of my books and arranged them on my shelves in alphabetical order, which took FOREVER, especially since my 3-year-old insisted on taking all of the blue books off the shelves lol. But I am so happy! I have missed seeing all of them! It’s the first thing I see when I wake up 🙂

My answer to this week’s random question: I guess that depends. If I have blog tours coming up, I try to read those first because there is a deadline. And I try to read books I have been given to review because I feel bad making the authors wait. BUT, I’ve noticed that I haven’t read books that I really want to read, so that has changed. I’m trying to focus more on what I actually want to read and what has been on my TBR list forever.

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What would you say is the best children’s book you’ve ever read?

I can’t wait to get a copy of…So I was in Barnes and Noble browsing through books while my husband and daughter were playing in the kids section. I saw the movie trailer for The 5th Wave, and it looks awesome, but I haven’t looked too much into the book. So I finally picked it up. It sounds amazing! I. MUST. HAVE. IT.

My answer to this week’s random question: I would have to say the Harry Potter books. Those were brilliantly written. BUT, if you ask me what my favorite books were when I was a kid, I would have to say The Baby-Sitters Club books.

233724

I was obsessed with those! I saw the new graphic novels based on the books, and I was reminded of my love for that series. I LOVED Mary Anne. I always related to her. I might have to go digging in boxes at my mom’s house to find all those books again.

What’s your favorite children’s book?

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Do you have any particular “quirks” when it comes to reading? (eg. taking notes while reading, etc)

I blogged about____ this past week…I actually started a new feature on my blog this past week. It’s called Book Vs. Movie, where the book goes head to head against the movie adaptation in 3 (or more) rounds. I have already done this in my head for years, so I thought I might share my crazy thoughts with my fellow bookaholics. Check out my first post: Book Vs. Movie #1: The Maze Runner

I also reviewed The Maze Runner, which I ended up loving by the way: Review: The Maze Runner by James Dashner

And I shared my favorite food/drink quotes for the week: Thirsty Thursday & Hungry Hearts #9 – Romancing the Dark in the City of Light

My answer to this week’s random question: When I read, I always take notes on my notes app on my phone (if it’s a physical book) or in my Nook (if it’s an eBook). And if I’m reading on my Nook, I highlight a lot too. I like to highlight my favorite quotes and just comment on my favorite parts in the book or parts that really annoy me. Not only does this help when I write my reviews, but it’s fun to look back at my random thoughts months or years from now.

What do you do while reading?

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What book(s) are you most excited to read, this year? Is there anything special on tap?

I’m currently reading…The Maze Runner by James Dashner.

6186357

Yes, I have never read this book. I always wanted to, but I just never got around to it. My husband has been wanting to watch the movie so bad. But he knows I won’t watch movies if I haven’t read the books. So, he finally put his foot down and said he would watch it without me if I don’t read it soon. Obviously, I caved and got the eBook from my library. I’m three chapters in, and I’m intrigued.

My answer to this week’s random question: Honestly, I don’t keep up with new releases. It gets me too anxious, so I just stick to what I can get my hands on right this moment. 🙂

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: What do you do when you finish a book? Do you immediately start another one?

I’m currently reading…Strange Girl by Christopher Pike.

24885570

I’m reading this for an upcoming blog tour hosted by Bewitching Book Tours. I actually got a paperback copy in the mail for this tour, which I was super excited about. I get way too happy about physical books. So far, the book is keeping me interested. And this girl is definitely strange, as the title suggests. Can’t wait to see where the story goes.

My answer to this week’s random question: When I finish a book, I try to immediately write the review. I feel like I need to get my thoughts and emotions down right away, or the review won’t be authentic. And after I write the review, I usually immediately start reading a book. BUT, there are those occasions where the book affected me way too much, and it’s too hard to get into another book right away. So, it really depends…

How about you? What do you do after you finish a book? Or share your links so I can visit your post 🙂

THIS WEEK’S RANDOM QUESTION: Did you buy books for anyone this Christmas (other than yourself)? 😉

First, I wanted to update you about what I said last week about my husband breaking my Nook. He got me a new one, but he could not recover all of the stuff on my old one. I was bummed, but on the bright side, I have a brand new, shiny Nook. Onto this week!

I bought the following book(s) in the past week…My new Nook came with a $5 gift certificate to use on Nook books. Of course, I immediately went on the under $5 section at the B&N site. So, I bought these two books:

21525330-2 23671124

Neverland was already on my TBR list, so I was super excited to see that it was under five bucks. And If You’re Not the One sounded so intriguing, so I had to get that one too. All for $4.98. Go me!

My answer to this week’s random question: No, I did not buy any books for anyone this Christmas. BUT, that’s only because no one I buy gifts for actually reads! They’re into other stuff, and I’m the geeky bookworm in the family 😉
