Monthly Wrap-Up: February 2016

Unknown-3

Personal life: I’ve been subbing almost every day, so that has been taking up most of my time. It has definitely cut into my reading time, but life tends to do that unfortunately. Things at home have had their ups and downs lately. Reading is an escape, so I need to get back to it. And I realized that I just don’t spend enough time with the few friends that I do have, so that needs to change. You really don’t know how much your friends mean to you until they’re not really in your life anymore. Note to self: make time for close friends.

Blog life: I did a few reviews and a few weekly memes. Nothing special. But I’m having a blast with my reading challenges. (I would do a monthly update, but I’m participating in way too many, so check out my reading challenges page if you’re interested.) As if reading couldn’t get anymore fun! I love the bingo ones! And the ones that motivate me to read more and outside my comfort level. I highly recommend any and all reading challenges. They’re super fun.

Book of the Month:

2986400a-b286-4a43-8925-6c39a0452130

I really liked this book. It was ALMOST perfect. It was such a cute chick-lit, romantic comedy, which is just what I need sometimes.

Favorite Cover:

2986400a-b286-4a43-8925-6c39a0452130

Ahh! I LOVE this cover. I could just stare at it for hours. It’s beautiful. I want to buy a physical copy and just frame it on my wall.

Favorite Book Boyfriend:

2986400a-b286-4a43-8925-6c39a0452130

I loved Connor. He grunts and is grumpy, but I loved him. His witty, sarcastic banter with Joanna was hilarious. I just wanted more! I may have to read it again to get my Connor fix.

Favorite Female:

17332564

Reena was so flawed and imperfect, and she didn’t make the best decisions, especially when it came to a certain guy, but I think even she underestimated her strength. She gets pregnant at 16, has to put her dreams aside, and raises her daughter on her own. She’s amazing.

Favorite Plot:

2986400a-b286-4a43-8925-6c39a0452130

No contest here. This was such a fun and unique plot. These two people who dislike each other so much are stuck on an island together for months. It’s hilarious and romantic, and I couldn’t get enough.

Favorite Author:

2986400a-b286-4a43-8925-6c39a0452130

Again, no contest. Camilla Isley knows how to write chick lit. I absolutely love this genre, and she reminded me why I need to start reading more of it. She is so damn talented, and I cannot wait to read more of her books.

How was your February?

Monthly Wrap-Up: January 2016

Unknown-3

Personal life: I was so ready to just get back to life after the holidays! My daughter started preschool again. She was so happy to be back. We don’t have a lot of family and friends with kids her age, so she missed her school friends. And now I’m back to substitute teaching. Finally making money after student teaching. Now I’m just studying for the RICA test, and then I will have my teaching credential. This has been such a long but rewarding process. And I actually LOVE subbing. Not a lot of people can say they love their jobs, so I definitely am one of the lucky ones 🙂

Blog life: I’m so happy with my blog life lately. I started two new features. Book Vs. Movie, where I compare the book to the movie, and Book Break, where I talk about anything non-book related that is on my mind. (Click on the links for my first posts.) And I read 6 books, which is great for me, considering I’ve been pretty busy with work and family stuff. Plus, all the books I read this month were 4 or 5 hearts. Awesome reading month for me!

Book of the Month:

25500532

While I loved all the books I read this month, I’m gonna have to pick this one as my favorite. It gave me all the feels, it was brilliantly written, and the romance was perfect. I loved everything about it.

Favorite Cover:

21525983

This is such a beautiful cover! I absolutely love it. It’s what got my attention in the first place. And it matches the book perfectly.

Favorite Book Boyfriend:

25500532

No contest here. Aiden was amazing. He had this obnoxious, cocky side (which I loved) and this sweet, romantic, soft side (which I loved even more!). He is so damaged and hurt, but so perfect. Now that I’m talking about him, I want to go back and read the book again.

Favorite Female:

25500532

Oh Haley. I really felt for this girl. She just lost her mom and was grieving on a level that no one understood. She tries so hard to be strong, take care of her horses, and be someone her mom would be proud of. I really admired her, and I love who she becomes.

Favorite Plot:

25392606

This was a tough one because the plots in all of these books were so good. BUT, I’m going to have to pick Ascenders. I loved the unique story about a high school for the recently deceased. Plus, meeting the love of your life after you die is just awesome…in a heartbreaking kinda way.

Favorite Author:

1635425

Again, all great authors this month. BUT, I have to say that Emily Goodwin is the one name that is permanently etched in my mind. I LOVE A GOOD ROMANCE. And just from this one book, I can tell that she is a brilliant storyteller. I am so tempted to just go buy the rest of her books.

January was amazing for me! How was yours?

Monthly Wrap-Up: December 2015

Unknown-3

Personal life: First of all, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to you all! I had a great month! Finished student teaching! Yay! So bittersweet! I’m ecstatic that I’m done, but I already miss those kids. Then, we had a hectic rest of the month. Christmas was insane, but my daughter had a blast, which is all that matters. She is actually old enough this year to understand the concept of Santa, so she was so excited about the whole thing. As for the year ending, this was probably the worst and hardest year of my life, but things are looking up. I feel like everything is as it should be. Can’t wait to see what 2016 holds for me and my family 🙂

Blog life: I actually have a blog life again! Student teaching is done with, which means I have been on here on a regular basis again. Wrote a few reviews, picked up a new weekly meme, and signed up for way too many 2016 reading challenges. But, I’m super excited about them. Onto the good stuff 🙂

Book of the Month:

20935107

This was an amazing book, which should be obvious since I gave it 6 out of 5 hearts. Gave me all the feels. Had me crying for hours. There are just no words to explain it. Read my review. Read the book. Trust me.

Favorite Cover:

20935107

Love this cover! It screams romance. I just had to read it. I know there is another cover for this book, but I like this one so much better. SO glad that my husband bought me the paperback that has this cover. I just want to show it off on my bookshelf now 🙂

Favorite Book Boyfriend:

20935107

I see a pattern here ;). I can’t help it! This book was incredible! And Kit was the ultimate book boyfriend. Tough yet sweet and romantic. I fell completely in love with him. Just thinking about him makes me want to read the book again.

Favorite Female:

Kat from The Ugly Stepsister. Determined, independent, sticks up for what she believes in. Plus, she is a dedicated bookworm. I loved her. And I think she is such an incredible role model. Hell, I even look up to her.

Favorite Plot:

20935107

Come Back To Me by Mila Gray. Girl falls for brother’s best friend. Both brother and boyfriend are redeployed. One of them is tragically hurt or killed. Her world is about to change. Who has she lost? Her brother or her boyfriend? Sad but such a good story.

Favorite Author:

Mila Gray and Aya Ling! A book has not affected me like Come Back To Me did. And I have Mila Gray to thank for that. And The Ugly Stepsister was SO well-written. Aya Ling is an amazing writer and storyteller. I am so glad I discovered these two authors.

December was great for me! How was yours?

Monthly Wrap-Up: November 2015

monthly wrap-up

Personal life: I can’t believe November is over. It feels like it just started. Anyway, student teaching was hectic this month. Lesson planning and prep work for kindergarteners is INSANE! Not only am I gone 10-12 hours because of traffic, but I spend the rest of the day getting ready for lessons for the next day. BUT, it’s so worth it when I see the kids actually learning something :). Two more weeks, and I will be done! Bittersweet. I’m happy to be almost done, but I’m going to miss these kids like crazy.

Blog life: My blog life was pretty non-existent. I’m surprised I got two books read and reviewed. Thanks to that week off I had for Thanksgiving! Well, I really hope to be back on here more once this semester is over. I miss it!

How was your November?

Monthly Wrap-Up: October 2015

monthly wrap-up

Yes, this is late. I know. My life has been beyond hectic. Better late than never!

Personal life: Wow. Back to student teaching, and it has been amazing but so time-consuming and difficult at the same time. Including traffic, I’m gone almost 12 hours a day. I miss my munchkin when I’m gone, and she has been a momma’s girl lately, so she has had a rough time too. On the plus side, my kindergarteners are adorable. They make my day so enjoyable. Halloween was awesome. Halloween party for my kinders on Friday and took my daughter trick-or-treating on Saturday. She made the cutest witch!

Blog life: I did a few posts, definitely not as much as usual. Sorry about that! And I only read 3 books! How is that possible?! I MISS READING! I MISS MY BOOKS! I can’t wait for Thanksgiving break. Hopefully, I can actually get some reading done. I miss this blog!

Monthly Wrap-Up: September 2015

monthly wrap-up

Personal life: August was bad. September was a lot better. It actually went by too fast. I wish it would’ve lasted longer! I started my student teaching in a kindergarten class. I have the most amazing master teacher and supervisor. They are awesome, encouraging, and just extremely helpful. I feel so lucky to have been placed in that school. I taught a couple lessons and was told that I’m a pro. Being in front of a classroom is my comfort zone, I have realized. So, things are looking up in life! Very happy 🙂

Blog life: I caught up with my blog tours! Yay! For awhile, I was posting everything late because I just booked too much for myself. BUT, October may get bad again. I booked too many blog tours. I can’t help it! I see a book I just HAVE to read, and logic leaves my brain. Wish me luck on reading all these books on time! I’m determined, so no worries 🙂

Book of the Month:

Sorry, I couldn’t pick only one this month! I tried really hard, but I honestly loved these two books equally. And the funny thing is that both books involve the heroine being held captive. I guess I have a type. But, these books are so, so good. Check them out if you haven’t already.

Favorite Cover:

The_Reapers_Kiss_1600

Awesome, awesome cover! It has this dark, edgy look but it’s also beautiful and definitely made me want to read this book.

Favorite Book Boyfriend:

Sin from Ghetto by M.L. Sparrow. Tough, rebel leader with a sexy name who captures a girl but slowly begins to fall for her. Need I say more? 🙂

Favorite Female:

Sunny Beaumont from Ghetto by M.L. Sparrow. I loved this girl. She’s independent and fights for what she believes in, no matter who stands in her way.

Favorite Plot:

Gamma Rift by Kalli Lanford. I loved this plot! Alien falls for human being held prisoner by father. Awesome.

Favorite Author:

M.L. Sparrow, author of Ghetto! Second book of hers that I have read, and she exceeded my expectations. Can’t wait to read more by her. Thank you M.L. Sparrow for the chance to read your wonderful books!

I have to say, September was great! How was yours?

Monthly Wrap-Up: August 2015

monthly wrap-up

Okay, I’m joining the monthly wrap-up bandwagon. I always tend to read these posts on other blogs, so I decided to finally do my own. So, here is what happened in the month of August:

In my personal life, it has been probably the worst month in a long time. Just a lot of heartbreak and unnecessary drama. August just lasted way too long for me. I’m happy that it’s over. On the bright side, school started, and I will be starting my final semester of student teaching. I will be that much closer to being a full-time elementary teacher, which has been my dream job since as long as I can remember.

In my blog life, August was filled with blog tours. I went a little blog tour crazy and joined so many because the books just looked so good and I couldn’t help myself. I didn’t do many weekly memes this month because my personal life just got in the way. I hope to do more in September. Now, onto the fun stuff 🙂
