The Liebster Award!

Thank you so much to Andy over at Too Many Books Not Enough Shelves for nominating me and my blog for the Liebster Award! This award is for those newer/smaller blogs that you feel deserve recognition, so this means a lot to me. I’m pretty new to the blogging world, and even though it takes a lot of hard work, I am having so much fun with it. I couldn’t be happier, and being recognized for what has become my baby is an honor.

Andy’s Questions for Me:

1. What book totally took you by surprise and how?

Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith. I’ll be honest. I only read this book because Tom Hardy is one of my favorite actors, and I wanted to read the book before I saw the movie. I didn’t expect too much from it. It didn’t sound like something I would normally read. But, I am SO glad I did. It was amazing. Completely unpredictable and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. It is now one of my favorite books.

2. If you could be transported into any world, what world would it be?

It might be a popular answer, but I’d say the Harry Potter world. I’ve always identified with Hermione, and I would love to experience this world of magic and meet the awesome characters within it.

3. What kind of character are you (hero/villain, main character/minor, etc.)?

That’s a tough one. Sometimes I feel like the main character, but then again, I am sometimes the minor character. There are times where the world revolves around me and my hectic, drama-filled life. Then, there are times where I’m the one my friends and family members go to for advice. I think everyone can relate to that.

 4. If you were ever able to meet your favorite author, who would it be and what would you say to them?

It would probably be Sophie Kinsella. She seems like such an awesome person, and I would thank her for always making me laugh and putting me in a good mood with all of her books.

5. Who’s your favorite minor character? Why?

I can’t think of any specific ones, but I tend to love the best friend of a female main character who is kind of crazy and outgoing and would do anything for her best friend. That chick who would help you hide the body, no questions asked.

6. What stand-alone book do you feel deserves a sequel?

You know what? Most of the stand-alone books that I loved ended perfectly, and a sequel would ruin them. As much as I would love to read more about the characters I ended up loving, I think a sequel can easily drag out the story unnecessarily.

7. Where do you read?

I usually read in bed or on the couch in my PJs. It’s my me time, and I love to just be comfortable and relax with a good book.

8. How are your bookshelves organized?

Alphabetical order, of course. I’m a bit OCD when it comes to my books. They have to be in alphabetical order by the author’s last name, or else I kind of freak out.

9. Do you ever buy cover reprints?

If it looks awesome, then yes. There have been a few original covers that I did not like, but I loved the new versions that came out years later.

10. What fictional character do you wish actually existed?

SO MANY! Pretty much all my favorite book boyfriends, especially Dane Winters from The Line Between by Tamsyn Bester because I am still suffering from a major book hangover since reading it. And I am in love with him 🙂

11.  Tell me a funny book story (something that happened at the library/book store/book club or even an interaction on social media).

My daughter has become a little bookworm like her mom, so we go to the local bookstore every week. It’s this very small bookstore within the library, so it’s usually pretty quiet. My toddler, who is potty training, is usually pretty good about not being too loud, but this one day, she decided she would stop doing that. This guy was looking at books near her, and that was when she decided she had to poop. She looks at him and says fairly loudly, “I need to try and poopoo!” and then she passed gas very loudly. He pretended he didn’t hear her and walked away. It was so embarrassing!

How My Blog Got Started

I have been a lifetime bookworm. I have been writing reviews for over two years for Readers’ Favorite and just for fun on Goodreads. I’ve always wanted to start a book blog. It was just very intimidating. I saw so many other blogs and didn’t think I could make a decent one. Then, one day, I just said, “Screw it. I’m starting a blog.” And that is how it happened. I wish I had some glamorous story, but it’s as simple as that 🙂

Advice…From a Rookie Blogger

Okay, before I offer some “advice,” keep in mind that I have only been blogging for a month. Yes, a month. BUT, one thing I have learned in that month is that your blog can become your life and your number one priority. It’s addicting. I have noticed that I spend hours on this thing, creating posts and making sure everything is perfect. I have actually lost focus on other things, so my advice is to not let it consume your life. It can easily become an addiction, but remember, YOU HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE OF BLOGGING. Spend time with family, focus on your actual job, go do fun things with friends outside of the book and blogging world, etc. My blog is not a chore for me. It’s just an addiction. It’s TOO fun. So, I make myself take a break from it every once in awhile.

Real Neat Blog Award!

Thank you so much to Shakera over at morebookspleaseblog for the nomination! For being a fairly new blogger, I really appreciate it! And she writes some pretty awesome reviews, so check out her blog if you haven’t already 🙂

Well, off to the post! Here are the usual prerequisites:

  1. Put the award logo on your blog.
  2. Thank the people who nominated you, linking to their blogs.
  3. Answer 7 questions asked by the person who nominated you.
  4. Nominate any number of bloggers you like, linking to their blogs.
  5. Let them know you nominated them (by commenting on their blog, etc.)

Now to the questions:

1. Why do you like/love to read?

I love getting away from reality and entering these new worlds. No matter what kind of mood I’m in, reading always relaxes me and puts a smile on my face. If I could, I would just sit and read all day. Too bad I have responsibilities 🙂

2. What’s your favorite genre?

Oh, that’s a tough one! Hmm…I’ll have to say New Adult right now. I love the stories that take place in between the character’s teen and adult lives. That stage in our lives where we’re starting college or our careers is so important, in my opinion. Plus, it’s the perfect blend of young adult and adult books.

3. Do you listen to music while you read? Or do you find that distracting?

I actually find it distracting. I like to lay in bed and read in complete silence. It’s soothing.

4. Who do you get your book recommendations from?

I get my book recommendations from people on Goodreads and from other blogs I follow. Sadly, hardly any of my friends and family are readers, but I have come to love and appreciate all my fellow bookworms I find online.

5. Do you prefer an actual book or electronic book?

The ultimate question! I prefer physical books. Nothing beats the smell or feel of a real book. And I love turning real pages and adding finished books to my collection. BUT, I do use my Nook a lot more often because I tend to read at night, and the glowlight is very convenient. Plus, most of the books I review are eBooks.

6. What’s your favorite book?

Right now, I think my favorite is either The Fault in Our Stars by John Green or Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith. Very different books but equally amazing!

7. Favorite couple?

Back in the day, I would’ve said Bella and Edward, but those movies kind of ruined it for me. Now, I would have to say Jolie and Rand from the Jolie Wilkins series by H.P. Mallory. LOVE that series!

And my nominees are:

The Librarian’s Bookshelf

Cinderella Stories

A Reader’s Thoughts

Bookshelves and Paperbacks

Romance Novels for the Beach

My questions for my nominees to answer:

1. What is your favorite genre and why?

2. Where is your favorite place to read?

3. What are you reading right now? What do you think so far?

4. What made you want to start a book blog?

5. Do you prefer physical books or eBooks?

6. Who is your favorite author?

7. Favorite series?

Happy reading! 🙂
