From the moment Fred meets Aja, he knows she’s different. She’s pretty, soft-spoken, shy—yet seems to radiate an unusual peace. Fred quickly finds himself falling in love with her.
Then strange things begin to happen around Aja. A riot breaks out that Aja is able to stop by merely speaking a few words. A friend of Fred’s suffers a serious head injury and has a miraculous recovery.
Yet Aja swears she has done nothing.
Unfortunately, Fred is not the only one who notices Aja’s unique gifts. As more and more people begin to question who Aja is and what she can do, she’s soon in grave danger. Because none of them truly understands the source of Aja’s precious abilities—or their devastating cost.
Love Aja or hate her—you will never forget her.
In Strange Girl, number-one bestselling author Christopher Pike has created the rarest of novels—a love story that swings between a heart-pounding mystery and a stirring mystical journey.
I saw this book offered for a blog tour, and I was immediately intrigued by the book blurb. It just sounded so mysterious. I had to know about Aja and her unique abilities. And the cover is so simple yet captivating. Plus, this was a paperback review copy, and I can hardly EVER turn those down 😉
WHAT I LIKED
The plot. I really liked how this story played out. It started simple: boy meets strange girl and starts falling for her. Then, we learn more about this girl, and things begin happening. Weird, interesting things. People start feeling differently around her. Sick and injured people begin feeling better. And there are even some twists and turns I didn’t expect. Unpredictable and such an engaging story!
Told from a guy’s POV. I hardly ever read books where the story is told from a male’s perspective. And when I do, it’s just part of a multiple POV book. So, this was refreshing. I liked being in a guy’s mind for a change…for the most part 😉
The mystery. This was my favorite part of the book. It was just so mysterious. As a reader, I was constantly questioning Aja, her past, and her abilities. There were also things about Fred’s friends that I was dying to know but couldn’t figure out. So it definitely had me on the edge of my seat. I read this pretty quickly for a 400+ page book. I just couldn’t stop reading.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
The romance. This part was just eh, whatever for me. I mean, it could’ve been sweet, but I felt no emotional connection or attachment to this part of the story. Maybe it was because of Aja’s unique personality. I don’t know. I just didn’t feel it.
The spiritual stuff. Okay, this book lost me with all the spiritual, mythical, enlightenment stuff. Even though I do think it was necessary for this particular story, I just felt like it went a bit overboard.
The pros definitely outweighed the cons this time. I really liked this book. The fact that it was so mysterious, intriguing, and fascinating did it for me. I can almost ignore the issues I had with it. I would definitely recommend it. It’s absolutely worth reading. Since this is the first Christopher Pike book I have read, I look forward to checking out his other books!
